Autolllatic LandInark Selection for Navigation 'With Panoral11ic Vision

چکیده
The use of visual landmarks for robot navigation is a promising field. It is apparent that the success of navigating by visual landmarks depends on the landmarks chosen. This paper reviews a monocular camera system proposed by [Bianco and Zelinsky, 1999] which automatically selects landmarks and uses them for localisation and navigation tasks. The monocular system's landmark selection policy results in a limited area in which the robot can successfully localise itself. A new landmark navigation system which uses a panoramic vision system to overcome this restriction is proposed and the first steps taken in the development of the new system are reported.

متن کاملEffective Mechatronic Models and Methods for Implementation an Autonomous Soccer Robot
Omni directional mobile robots have been popularly employed in several applications especially in soccer player robots considered in Robocup competitions. However, Omni directional navigation system, Omni-vision system and solenoid kicking mechanism in such mobile robots have not ever been combined. This situation brings the idea of a robot with no head direction into existence, a comprehensi...
متن کاملVision-Based Navigation
Navigation in outdoor terrain is di cult due to a lack of easily and uniquely identi able landmarks. This paper outlines current research on extraction of navigationally salient features from images and maps, feature matching and viewpoint determination, landmark selection, detection and diagnosis of route following errors, perceptual issues related to vision-based navigation, and database and ...
متن کاملVisual Tracking and Target Selection for Mobile Robots
This paper describes how tracking and target selection are used in two behavior systems of the XT-1 vision architecture for mobile robots. The first system is concerned with active tracking of moving targets and the second is used for visually controlled spatial navigation. We overview the XT-1 architecture and describe the role of expectation-based template matching for both target tracking an...
متن کاملSelf-learning navigation algorithm for vision-based mobile robots using machine learning algorithms
Many mobile robot navigation methods use, among others, laser scanners, ultrasonic sensors, vision cameras for detecting obstacles and following paths. However, humans use only visual (e.g. eye) information for navigation. In this paper, we propose a mobile robot control method based on machine learning algorithms which use only camera vision. To efficiently define the state of the robot from r...
